A ring should feel comfortable and stay secure. If yours is too tight, slides too easily or spins around your finger, The Diamond Room can evaluate the fit and construction before recommending ring resizing or another fit adjustment. We work with many fine gold and platinum engagement rings and wedding bands at our Austin showroom.

A ring that no longer fits the way it once did may need attention, particularly if it feels painfully tight, slips off too easily, rotates frequently, is difficult to remove under ordinary circumstances or doesn't sit comfortably beside a wedding band. However, spinning doesn't always mean the ring should be made smaller. Finger shape, knuckle size and a top-heavy setting all play a role.

This is a common fit challenge. A ring may need enough room to pass over a larger knuckle but sit too loosely at the base of the finger. Making the band smaller is not always the best answer. Depending on the design, condition and fit, options worth discussing may include resizing, sizing beads, sizing bars, a horseshoe-style adjustment or a European/French shank. Each behaves differently, and not every solution is suitable for every ring.
Many can, but the center-stone setting, number and placement of accent stones, metal, existing wear, previous repairs and the size change requested all matter. We'll examine the entire ring, not only the measurement. If the issue includes a loose setting, also see our guide to loose diamond and prong repair.

Many 14K and 18K gold rings can be resized. A plain band and a diamond-set band present different structural considerations, so the design determines the approach.
Many platinum rings may be resized as well. Metal alone does not determine suitability; stones, settings and previous repairs must be considered.
When diamonds extend along the ring's shoulders, changing the band circumference can affect surrounding settings. An inspection is important before work is planned.
Full eternity bands have stones all around the ring and may have little or no plain metal section for a conventional adjustment. Some have limited sizing options. We'll need to examine the piece before discussing what's possible.
Older rings may have thin shanks, worn prongs or previous repairs that need attention. Fit is only one part of deciding whether and how to alter an inherited piece. Learn about heirloom jewelry restoration.
Depending on the ring's construction and how much its circumference changes, a resize can affect portions of a setting. This is one reason surrounding stones should be evaluated. If a stone already moves or a prong is worn, that issue may need to be addressed as part of the recommended work.
Finger size can change throughout the day and with other circumstances, so a temporary change may not warrant a permanent alteration. If the fit remains uncomfortable or insecure, let us evaluate the ring and how it sits on your hand. More complex concerns can begin with our fine jewelry repair service in Austin.
Not sure whether your ring should be resized? Bring it in and we'll look at the fit and the construction together.
It depends on the ring's metal, setting, condition, degree of size change and any additional work needed. Pricing follows an evaluation.
Timing varies by the piece and recommended work. We'll provide an expected timeframe after examining the ring.
There is no universal safe number. Some designs allow more adjustment than others.
Secure, yes; painfully tight, no. A good fit generally passes over the knuckle with some resistance and sits comfortably at the base of the finger.
Finger size can fluctuate. It is worth establishing whether the problem is consistent before considering a permanent adjustment.
Not necessarily. A taller center setting, a larger knuckle or the shape of your finger may contribute to spinning.
Often, but the prior work and the ring's current condition must be evaluated first.
Many platinum rings can, depending on construction, stones and the size change needed.
Options are often more limited than for a plain band. An individual inspection determines what may be practical.
